Yesterday was Independence Day and David caught his thrills by watching a hot dog eating contest on TV. He was so excited he was screaming and his heart was pounding. It went into overtime, called the Dog Off, when the two who tied at the buzzer had to eat five hot dogs each. The first one to eat all five won the contest – every pulsating bite! The final score was 64 to 63 hot dogs eaten. The prize was $10,000.
David said, “The contest was emotionally draining and more exciting than a Warriors football game! It was the highlight of my 4th of July.”
He plans to buy MLE, which stands for Major League Eating. It’s a video game for the Wii, and he wants to throw a party contest at home.
Eh, count me out. One hot dog is all I can eat. However, I’m willing to watch the video and participate in the game if no actual eating is involved.
David said he could never enter the contest on TV, because, at most, he can eat just 3-4 hot dogs. What blew him away is that most of the contestants were SKINNY; only a couple of them were over-weight.
I watched the show for just a few seconds before wandering off. I can’t, for the life of me, figure out why my husband enjoys such a program. I think it’s disgusting to see adults stuffing their mouth with food. Ugh!

I just surprised that Kobayashi has found an equal. These guys can eat because they have a physical advantage with a lower and more expandable stomach. Its great stuff.

Err, that would be a game I’d rent first, unless it sells for dirt cheap.

las vegas, is Kobayashi still lifting a lot of weights? The teeth comment does not surprise me. The dentist in Japan are not good.

Las Vegas emailed me this response on July 8:
From what I read in Japanese papers, Kobayashi has not been feeling to good for over a year.
Some blame it on the weight lifting, making his abs too hard to expand when eating.
A young girl has replaced him as eating champion in Japan, not as fast, but heavy on the volume.
