New Year’s Eve, 2008

By gigihawaii

I guess you could call us a couple of old fogies, as David and I won’t be partying tonight.  I think that in all the years we’ve been married, we’ve celebrated New Year’s Eve only once with a party of 7 at our Salt Lake condo in the 1980s.  True, there also were times when we danced at a swanky hotel in Waikiki, braving the dangerous drive home on the smoky freeway.

Well, those times are over.  We prefer quiet to revelry.

So what are our plans?  With Lisa out with her friends, David and I will have a simple supper (broiled New York steak) around 6:30 p.m.  Predictably, David will take a nap at 8:00.  When our neighbors start their fireworks, I’ll close the windows and turn on the a/c.  Around 11:00, David will wake up, drink beer, and toast the new year while we both watch the countdown at Times Square on TV.  We’ll venture outside to get a better view of the pyrotechnics in the sky.

And then, we’ll go to bed.  Pau.

Gosh! That sounds like a pretty similar evening to us. I was going to try recording the fireworks and blogging it but I’ve never tried uploading a video onto blogger. We’ll see.

Hmmm…. I’m going to do the laundry, too. Very exciting evening.

Mine is something similar, too. I’m not into fireworks and stuff. We’ll go to a party at a church member’s house in ‘Ewa, then return early and close the windows. ;-)

We used to party on New Years Eve as it ended 5 years ago. M wife has a big family and we always used to partake in potlucks with the kid in tow. Now we enjoy the quite nite home alone and leave the partying for the grown up kids and their kids.

Christmas an New Years are spent going to the movies in Koko Marina where there’s a smaller crowd in attendance but it looks like more and more people did the same this year compared to prior years past. Hang on to your wallets while at the Theaters a small popcorn and medium drink is just under $10, its funny we go eat something small before we go there but we always end up buying the high priced snacks in there. The smell of the freshly popped popcorn lure us the to the snack counter even though we’ve just eaten.
