The party in honor of visiting blogger “Las Vegas” was held at Genji on South King Street tonight. It is a full-service bar and restaurant with karaoke. This is the entrance from the parking lot.

LV has many friends. We took up the entire room.

David ordered the chopped steak, and I had the chicken katsu. We enjoyed the meal. That’s SteveM, who organized the bash. Those are Mardi Gras beads around our necks. Blogger “Midnight” gave them to us.

This is the guest of honor, Las Vegas, who once was a sumotori in Japan years ago.

LV sings a Japanese song. Here are his brother-in-law (left), his wife (foreground), and one of his sisters.

LV has a beautiful voice.

He can read Japanese!

This is LizKauai, who also has a gorgeous voice. A Mardi Gras mask is on top of her head, and Mardi Gras beads are around her neck.

Finally, this is Jason. D1Shima is on the left.
Now you know what my faithful bloggers look like. Nice attaching faces to the names, eh?

Looks like everyone had a great time last night! You left really early, too! The Tsai-ko’s sure have a bunch of good to great singers. Did you sing anything or just eat and enjoy the music?
One of these days I will have the opportunity to hear LV and Liz sing. Until then I just have to be patient and let the anticipation build!

I usually stay 3 hours at a party, any party. Got there at 7 and left at 10.
We ate and listened. I think Liz recorded the singing and will have it on her blog.
Yeah, we all had a great time! Excellent food, excellent singing!!!

Stop sneaking out quietly! You need to say GOODBYE to everyone. Grr …
It was nice seeing you guys again!

Before we snucked out, I said good night to Liz, thanked SteveM for inviting me to the party, and was introduced by LV to his family.
It was a fun party!

What fun, Gigi! I’ve seen these names on your blog and it’s fun to put a face to them.

Why say bye to just Liz, LV and the family?
February 22, 2009 at 8:50 am |
Just me, I guess. I didn’t think anyone else would care.

I do not know why you feel that way — like not many people would care. You must have been comfortable enough to go. Must have been nice to see some of them!
To me, they are like an extended family. Everyone talking at once, the noise, and laughter. Not to mention the singing!

I know what you mean. I just remembered I said bye to Mei Ling and the A-Houses on the way out. It was nice to see them again.
There were a lot of people in the room. I didn’t know everybody. Lots of new faces!

Sorry, Jason, I deleted your 2nd comment as well as that by someone else because … just because! Let’s change the subject.

Biggest surprise of last night?
That hubby did not slug me for all the fun I’ve made of him over the past year.
Guy is a saint.
gigi was nice too, got a copy of her first book from her.
I’m halfway through.
Mahalo for coming

Since you have finally met LV, what do you think? I still think you need to take what he says with a block of salt! Sarcastic, thoughtful, funny and provocative observations and statements from him is what I expect.

What struck me about LV is his voice — both speaking and singing! He has a velvety voice, really mellow and sweet.
He’s also a gentleman.
And he has a beautiful wife. Good taste, LV!
It was nice meeting his sisters and brother-in-law, too. Thanks for introducing me to them.

gigi- you missed las vegas’ “elder sister” (who looks very young!). She is an award- winning karaoke singer and when she sang, the Genji owners and staff all appeared out of the woodwork to listen to her and applaud enthusiastically when she was done. A-wunnerful, a wunnerful!
It was nice to see you and David there with the gang!

Another fabulous write up!
Sorry I have been away from your blog for awhile. I have been doing a lot of writing here–mainly work on my first book, a collection of essays about growing up in the Midwest in the 1960s/1970s. The post “Body Count” is one of the essays that will be in the book. I don’t have a publisher: I have a friend who knows some publishers and in a couple of weeks I will send off the manuscript. If that doesn’t pan out for me, I will self-publish. I will keep you informed.
You can read more of my essays at Helium.com. My pen name is Papa_Sparks.
