Breakfast at Denny’s

Yesterday morning, David drove me to Straub Clinic in Pearlridge for a blood test.  The wait period was just 30 minutes, and afterward, we decided to have breakfast at Denny’s.

When we entered the restaurant, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee greeted us.  Mmmm, heavenly!  Coffee with cream, refillable for $2.05 per person.

David ordered the Grand Slam Burrito.  $8.59.  This was comprised of 2 scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes with syrup, topped with cheese, and wrapped in a flour tortilla.  It was accompanied by hash browns.  David said that he wished the pancakes had more syrup.

I ordered the Senior Omelet (for seniors 55 years or older).  $7.49.  The 2-egg omelet came with fruit (alternative:  grits or hash browns) and an English muffin with jelly (alternative:  bagel or toast).  I was very satisfied with this meal.

So which is better:  Denny’s or IHOP?  If you are ravenous, choose IHOP, where the portions are humongous.  But, I felt Denny’s omelet and fixings were excellent, and I didn’t leave hungry.  Besides, it was just a few doors down from Straub Clinic.

And how was your appointment? Is everything healing OK?

Kay, I just went to the Lab for a blood test. I will see my internist later this month re the test results for cholesterol, glucose, and liver. I hope the scores are all normal like last time.

As for the cat bite, it is healing nicely. Two of the knuckles are finally showing when I close my hand, and extending the fingers and clenching my fist don’t hurt as much. Still swollen around the bite marks, though.

The cat bit you? Going out for breakfast is my favorite! Hope your bloodwork turns out ok.

The last time I went to that Denny’s, we had the WORST service ever. They stuck us in the back near the kitchen and IGNORED us. Took us forever to get our drinks, our order taken, our food. I swore I’d never go back again. Everybody I’ve talked to until now has had similar horror stories.

Oh how I miss eating b’fast out! It’s my absolute favorite meal to have in a restaurant. I was a regular at the IHOP and WaffleHouse in our town in FL.

All we have here is McD’s :( but I’m not a fan of the McMuffin. We do have Denny’s, but it’s thoroughly Japanese, no Grand Slams or traditional American b’fast fare :( lots of ramen and hamburg steak, although they do have a small order of pancakes, topped w/ ice cream, on the dessert menu.

I swear I’d give my right eye for pecan waffle and a side of hash browns “scattered and smothered”!

We always get the senior omelet made with Egg Beaters, a small dish of salsa for the top of the omelet, hash browns, and their fluffy biscuit. Our favorite meal out. For an inexpensive breakfast out, try the Jack in the Box “bowl” – there are two, one with sausage and one with ham. So good, so cheap at $2.99 each!
