Remember the popular TV series, Hawaii 5-0? Well, my pal Ted Trimmer photographed the crew filming the opening scene at the Ilikai Hotel today. The Ilikai is located near Ala Wai Harbor, where Ted resides on a boat. Here is the main character, Steve McGarrett, played by Australian actor Alex O’Loughlin, standing on the exact spot where the original show began:

Here’s the crew preparing the scene:
I can hardly wait to see the new Hawaii 5-0. The original was very entertaining and nicely showcased Hawaii’s beauty. Mahalo, Ted, for emailing these wonderful pictures to me! Appreciate it.

Fabulous!!!! I chuckled that you mentioned the Ilikai because it brought to mind a story from the days when my ex-husband was stationed at Pearl Harbor in his Navy days.

I watched the series in Switzerland, where it was called Hawaii fünf-null.

Is Jack Lord in the new series and is he still Magarret?

Thanks, Q!!!! My bad! Jack Lord, the actor, is now deceased. He played Steve McGarrett.

I watch Hawaii 5-0 on channel 11, whatever it’s called. I like seeing present day one way streets used to be 2 way streets. Oh, and the way they just used street names where they felt like it. ie Intersection of Piikoi and Kilauea! LOL

I wondered about that, too. I guess they have to protect the real owner of a house, located at a certain intersection, by changing the names of the streets — especially if they say on the show that criminals live at that house! LOL.

We used to watch this show all of the time. Can’t wait to see how the new one compares.

If you guys intend for this to work you will study very close the old show and try to duplicate it as much as posible. If you do not, it will not be on for a second season. You may not believe this but even the old show could be a hit compared to a lot of shows that are now on TV.

Thank you for these photos! We can’t wait. I do hope they keep the original Theme Song by that Argentinean composer. It made the show.
