These are the chocolate-covered long johns I raved about two Saturdays ago. Note the vanilla custard filling, which was injected at the bottom end of each long john. See the hole at the end of each long john?
While we are on the subject of food, here are photos of a breadfruit tree growing in my neighborhood. I have never tasted breadfruit and don’t know how to prepare it for consumption. Please google for more information. Isn’t this a pretty tree? I love the shape of the leaves:
Since his knees and hips are still painful, David made an appointment with a doctor in the sports medicine department. Strangely, the receptionist insisted that he make separate appointments for his knees and his hips. Seems like a waste of time. David hopes an injection in each knee will do the trick. He also bought a new chair for his office, and it seems to be helping him.
Today is Super Bowl Sunday. I considered throwing a party, but David was against it. There’s a lot of work involved, and he is just not up to it. I think I’ll shop for muumuus at T&L Muumuu Factory this morning before the game starts. I love the ones that my friend, DrumMajor, purchased when she was here last September. I hope they are available in my size.
Anyway, David wants the New York Giants to win the Super Bowl, whereas I am rooting for the New England Patriots. (Patriots QB Tom Brady is so handsome!) Do you have a favorite team?

They look fattening

The breadfruittree is indeed very pretty.
I have never tasted the fruits either.
As far as I know they are hard to get here.
Our world is still white, but veeery sunny, what
is great! It is as cold as in Alaska though…
Have a great Sunday!

Around here we call your long johns, eclairs. No matter what they are called, they are delicious, and not on my diet even if it is Super Bowl Sunday. All of those foodie holidays have already gotten me into trouble. I will read while the game runs in the background.

I have eaten eclairs many times, but they are not quite the same as long johns. Long johns have softer shells, and they are injected with the custard filling at the ends, whereas eclairs have harder shells that are cut on the side to allow the filling to be scooped inside. Whatever! Both are delicious!

They look good.
I have heard of breadfruit trees but never seen one. They are very pretty.

The long johns are like a custard filled donut we have here. Yummy.
We have a birthday brunch this morning, then I’m helping my son with a sewing machine, and then I hope to get in a walk in the sunshine before the big game. I’ll record the game so I can see any commercials I miss.
It’s kind of funny, because I usually just tune out commercials, and when i record, I skip the commercials. But during the Super bowl, the talk is all about the commercials, so i have to be in the know! As to the game, I guess I’ll root for New York, choosing Payton’s little brother over Brady.

Ha! I know what you mean. I usually fast forward through the commercials and half time show for regular games, but not for the Super Bowl. I always wonder if there will be another wardrobe malfunction during the half. However, today we plan to watch the game live.

I will have the game on but won’t be watching every play… Unless it gets close and nail biting! I’m hoping for Eli Manning to show his stuff, but I really don’t care who wins.

those long johns look amazing (and fattening!) Lol, I like how you choose your sports team! I’d likely do the same. Hope David feels better soon.

I have too many fans who are Giants fans and so I must say…”Go Giants!”

Three things:
!. Did you know The Bounty under Captain Bligh brought the breadfruits from Tahiti to the Caribbean (cheap food for slaves)?
2. I too have doctors for different parts of my skeleton;
3. No football here, I will be reading or watching Bill Moyers on PBS.

No, I can’t say I ever heard that about breadfruits. As for doctors, David is seeing the same doc for both knees and hips on two separate days. He was told “too much to do at once.”

I love Long Johns. Anything with a custard filling is good by me. I am not a fan of that whipped white filling, whatever it is.
I vote for Tom Brady too. He was a U of Michigan player so we Michigan fans are loyal. Go Tom!
I was giong to make cabbage rolls for dinner today,, until my husband said ” Nothing screams Super Bowl like cabbage rolls!” Now it’s pizza. Ha!

Yup, we are having pizza during the game, too. Pan Pizza Supreme from Pizza Hut.

Gigi — David is probably being told to come in for different sections because that’s the way insurance will reimburse / bill. See how he’s treated, but why not to an orthopaedic doc instead of “sports medicine.?”
Be sure send up pics of the new muumuus.
Long johns are tasty! Won’t need breakfast after those!
I’m working during the Super Bowl: which means the doctors won’t want to be called about patients during the game. Hopefully the patients won’t want to be bothered either.
Cheers, DrumMajor

I am not sure why the appointment center gave him an appt with a sports medicine doctor. Maybe he is an orthopedic surgeon, too. The first appt is on Feb 16.
I’ll post pics of the muumuus tomorrow.

mmm….long johns. Haven’t had one in years. BTW, I read your blog before Superbowl. Didn’t watch all season, didn’t know who Tom Brady was, but because you said he was handsome…I had to watch. mmmm…yes I agree

Long Johns used to be my favorite. I haven’t had them in ages. Art enjoyed the game, especially since the team he was rooting for won. Our son, Jon was rooting for the Patriots.

Be careful about surgical replacements. A co-worker had two knee replacements. He ended up with four iirc, and a liver transplant. Missed a year of work. My boss had two knee replacements, and it worked out ok. He used the other guy’s advise on surgeons.
