A financial success

Fountains of Tivoli, Italy. 1969.

David knows a man in his fifties, who was a pre-med student at UH. When he flunked organic chemistry, a prerequisite for admission to medical school, he dropped out of college and became an electrician. Years later, he applied for a job as a stevedore at Matson and, among hundreds of applicants, was hired. Long story short, he earned $189,000 last year due to overtime work. He owns a duplex in Honolulu, lives on one side, and rents out the other half for $1,200/month.

Wouldn’t you say he is a financial success? It just goes to show that when one door closes, another one will open.

David wishes he could earn $189,000. Due to his demotion in 2010, he makes much less despite working overtime. But, he phoned me with good news: His boss is going to give him a raise. David doesn’t know how much, but, hey, something is better than nothing.

Good times are around the corner!

P.S. David noted errors in my post and made these corrections:

1. He made $185,000.

2. He converted a large house into a duplex. He rents out the larger half for $2,400 per month. They also pay 2/3 of the electric bill and split the cable bill.

I am a firm believer in that “another door” saying.
Wonderful that David is getting a raise. The appreciation of the job you do shown by the raise can be as rewarding as the actual dollars.

Yeah for the raise! It is great to be recognized.

    Congratulations to David.

Rents here for a two-bedroom average $2,000+ per month. My friend rents her modest apartment for $2,600 per month. I am shocked it is less expensive in Hawaii. Hmmmmm. Dianne

Congratulations to both of you! So happy to read that.. the other day i was telling my son that working life has its snitches.. he was feeling quite down due to some error in his designs… and i told him that working life is like that… we make mistakes now and then and most important is we know how to overcome them and learn from our mistakes…
