Hawaii: Statue of King Kamehameha, the Great.
Well, you can call me stupid anytime, but I have to admit that I am always missing a teachable moment with my grandson.
For instance, Rylan was bragging to me about the rare bowel movement he’d made in the toilet at his home. This was an awesome feat, because usually, he makes it in his diaper. Yes, he’s being toilet trained.
“It was big, Grandma,” he said. “My mommy said, ‘Heh, heh, heh.’”
“What did your daddy say?’”
“My daddy said, ‘Heh, heh, heh.’”
It was then that I missed a teachable moment. I neglected to say, “You mean that your mommy and daddy LAUGHED. They were so proud of you, Ry.”
Aaaarghhh! Why in the world did I not add a word to Rylan’s vocabulary? I could just kick myself now.
THEY LAUGHED, grandson, LAUGHED.

You do a wonderful job with Rylan and I am sure you will have another opportunity to teach him that heh heh heh means laughter.

I probably wouldn’t have thought about teaching opportunities either when the subject at hand was so riveting
