Three cats that went AWOL

David and I feel very depressed, because today marks the second week that Cutey has been missing, leaving a gaping hole in our lives.

This isn’t the first cat that has disappeared from us.  Lisa’s cat, Jenny (formerly known as Jimmy until the vet told us Jimmy was a Jenny), vanished forever in 2005.  The last time I saw her, she was being chased up the street one night by a large orange cat.  Did the orange cat kill her?

Then, our present cat, Kitty, was absent for two weeks in 2006.  When he returned, he was ravenous.  I think someone must have done unspeakably cruel things to Kitty, because not only was he gaunt, but there also was a sore on his flank that looked like it had been burned by a cigarette.  The only other time he went missing was a few months ago when three tiny kittens suddenly appeared in our patio and frightened Kitty.  He came back only after I had taken the kittens to the humane society.

So, what do you think?  Is Cutey gone for good?  I think Kitty misses him, because they liked to snuggle next to each other.  With Cutey gone, Kitty has become more needy, constantly whining for our attention.  Food isn’t enough to satisfy him, as he mews even when there is food on the ground.

What should we do?  If we adopt another cat, it might scare Kitty away.  On the other hand, can he bear being alone?

    Gigi —

If a cat mews even with food on the ground, is he maybe getting sick from something, like humans not eating if they don’t feel right? Can a vet tell? I’m not a cat person, though. Good luck. DrumMajor

He doesn’t seem lethargic. He is alert and active. But how can I take him to the vet? Hello, isn’t that how I got bitten in the first place and had to go to the ER twice? He is hard to cage.

It’s always so sad to lose a pet! They are like family members! I do hope you find Cutey and that Kitty feels like eating again soon.

    I’ll keep fingers crossed!

Gigi, I’m sorry to hear about Cutey, I hope he finds his way back home. We have a cat too but he stays indoors and never gets let out.

I hope your little friend returns. Someone else may be feeding and amusing him.

    Aloha, Neighbor

Wait. If suddenly your sibling went missing, would you be up with replacing him/her with just any old person? Likely not. And Kitty is already high strung and upset. Just give him extra love and attention for while.

AND, ask your vet for a mild kitty tranquilizer the next time you have to take Kitty anywhere. Safer for you and Kitty.

  8. gigihawaii Says:

OK, Quilly, I’ll wait and see. Maybe, it’s too soon to get a replacement. We will just have to pet Kitty more often.

I’m so sorry, Gigi. I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed that Cutey will return soon.
