Champagne

Last night, David and I drank a bottle of Chandon California Champagne, which he bought for $14 at Costco.  I honestly could not say that it tasted better than the Korbel California Champagne, which we drank on New Year’s Eve and which cost $10 at Costco.  David, on the other hand, claimed that the Chandon was less tart than the Korbel.  Nonsense, I said.  Champagne is champagne, especially since both grapes came from the same state.

David is tempted to pay $30 for a bottle of Moet Chandon.  Ridiculous!  Some people think nothing of paying over a hundred dollars for a bottle of wine.  My God, how much is one sip?!  Just because something costs more, it doesn’t always mean it tastes better.

I love bubbles.  Offer me Sparkling Cider, Diet Pepsi, Diet Root Beer or Champagne, and I’ll be your friend for life.  Mmmm.  “Tiny Bubbles In The Wine!”  Remember that Don Ho song?  Effervescence!  LOVE IT.

You can tell David (aghast!) we drink wine from boxes! Yup! We had friends who visited us from Seattle and we didn’t offer our boxed wine but then they mentioned that it’s what they drink, too. From that night on, we ALL drank our boxed wine.

Can’t say I have ever tasted boxed wine. Anyway, I prefer Champagne, which is always bottled.

Your David enjoys buying expensive champagne and that is better than the man who said:”I don’t mind whether the wine is good or bad, as long as it gets me drunk”. I believe he was a Dutchman!!
    Happy New Year.

Growing up I always had ginger ale in my champagne glass. I find I still prefer it — and generally the more expensive a champagne is, the less I like it! How odd is that?

I don’t drink champagne but if anyone were to give me a tin of Malossol Sevruga Caviar… well, I would eat it with great appreciation!

I haven’t had any champagne in ages, enjoy a glass of Shiraz at night though.

Hope your week is off to a good start! Bubbly or not!

While I prefer Champagne, I don’t have the finances to support my preference. I actually find the best values in sparkling wine to be from Spain, with their delicious Cava.

Your diet Pepsi is cheaper than the champagne. Fake (non-alcoholic) Cold Duck is pretty good, too, as is real Cold Duck. Some boxed wines taste better than others. The cheaper brands tend to go bad sooner, so one needs more friends around for those boxes. I love the spigots on the boxes.

My favorite wine of late is a nice little Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile called Gato Negro (Black Cat). It sells for $3.99 a bottle when it’s on sale. My friends just love it!!! I can’t afford expensive wine.
