Because I was so out of it when I was sick, I think David realizes how much housework I did when I was well. This is because he and Lisa had to pick up the slack – tasks like doing the dishes and laundry, sweeping, mopping and vacuuming, dusting, cleaning the bathrooms, taking the trash out, watering the plants, etc., etc.
Now that I am well, I have resumed my duties. HOWEVER, I am now insisting that David do the vacuuming once a week, since the landscapers have taken over the lawn mowing and other yard work. Don’t you think that’s fair? Why should I do all of the housework? Vacuuming once a week won’t kill him. Fortunately, David agrees.
On another note, I am happy we have so many great eateries around us. Over the weekend, we like to order take-out meals from Koa House (omelets and pancakes), Soon’s Kalbi (Korean food), and Champa Thai (Thai food) to name a few. I must admit that I get tired of my own cooking, despite having access to cookbooks lining my book shelves.

Well David does have the carpal tunnel problem! Good that he’s willing to help out though!
My husband does all the vacuuming and he will say most of the cleaning. But i swear he likes doing it. I dust and do the washrooms (bathrooms) and we do love to eat out, too much fast food too.

With surgery, David’s carpel tunnel syndrome is cured. But, I wish he were more like your husband! Imagine enjoying cleaning the house!

We share the housework, but hubby is the King of the Kitchen. He keeps it clean, does most of the cooking, and I vacuum now and then. We’re pretty easy going.

We do eat out quite a bit for dinner. I do the laundry and John cuts the grass. We share cleaning the dishes, etc.

You do work pretty hard, taking care of your household and your grandson. “Women’s work” tends to be invisible. When we were younger, I did everything around the house, but now we share tasks.

That’s a good way of putting it: Women’s work is invisible. Men don’t appreciate their wives til their wives get sick and can’t work.

In my younger years I did it all…worked full time, did all the housework and cooking, watched our two children and took care of our finances. Today it is the reverse, where I am guilty of not doing my fair share. Husband likes to eat so he cooks most of the time. When no one cooks, we eat out, usually sharing one order. He does the laundry, cleans the house, just about everything. I pitch in doing housework and cooking when I want. We both shop. I still manage our finances. Due to the internet, that job has become more complicated in scope ironically (bill paying is easier, but my system is insane) so he’s just glad he doesn’t have to do it. Fortunately, my 89 yo dad is still independent so we basically just shop and check on him.

No, we’re self employed. So our hours vary. When we are not working, we practice retirement. I know it sounds funny but I often fear the day when we have more time than money lol Yeah, after not being so good when we were younger…your husband’s a very steady person so he’s a keeper too. And I’m sure you’ve got his word whenever he commits.

So David is now well trained. So nice of him to have agreed to do the vacuuming. I think he can volunteer to take up some more tasks.Work sharing around the house brings in greater equilibrium and better appreciation of each other.

We all like to eat something different from time to time because we tend to prepare the same meals over and over. I really dislike housework and prefer to be in the garden.

I fully agree with you; though no guy left to do the vacuuming here.
I don’t like to cook for me alone, but ordering something is quite odd, too. So I have only smalls these days. Now I will get me some joghurt with blueberries as supper…… ;))) ♥

We only eat out on special occasions. I am doing more cooking since I finished my degree. Using the money we save to pay a housekeeper. ( I work in my garden) Dianne

As a single person, I do it all, when I feel like it. Dust keeps until you get to it! Life is more important!
I do “pick up” alot to keep track of stuff.
I call stuff that others leave around “bird droppings,” and told my son that when he was growing up.
I have my windows cleaned by a window cleaner, and my whole place cleaned by the amazing “The Maids” company/franchise once a year. 4 ladies come in a do everything in 1 1/2 to 2 hours! DrumMajor

I cook, Tom does the dishes. I dust and sort, Tom vacuums and usually cleans the bathrooms. I used to do the vacuuming but now it aggravates my back issues, as does cleaning tubs and showers. We do the work together until it is done, or I’ve gone off to do the grocery shopping.

Mom does the downstairs and we do the upstairs. I’m really thankful that Art has always helped around the house. I’m very lucky.
