Every time Rylan makes a mess on the floor (e.g., diarrhea, blueberry smoothie, orange smoothie), I am thankful we have blue carpeting. Blue doesn’t show the stains as starkly as do white or beige carpets. There was a time when we did have white carpeting. It was a terrible thing to do to my kids, who were expected to wash their feet before stepping on the carpet, and were forbidden to drink dark colored drinks. Those poor children! Yes, it was very stressful to keep it clean, though I must admit a sparkling white carpet with green ferns hanging nearby was quite stunning to look at. Guests were impressed.
Last Monday, I decided to change the seat covers on 12 dining chairs. The owner of Magdaleno’s Upholstery came by and showed me fabric samples. I chose a fabric with colorful tropical flowers against a brilliant blue background. The chairs will be ready in about two weeks. I’ll post photos at that time.
As you can tell, blue is my favorite color, though people have told me I look best in either red or black clothing.
It’s too bad David has brown eyes, because blue eyes make me swoon!

My sister has white carpet in one of her rooms. Years ago, when my niece was little and I was watching her, she convinced me she was indeed allowed to drink grape juice in there. Thankfully she did not spill it. I later learned that was incorrect.

Yikes! Grape juice is indelible, isn’t it? That would have been a permanent stain.

Can’t wait to see your new chairs! You’re funny Gigi! And I love blue too.

We are kindred spirits, Christine.

Carpets look nice for a while, but they are so hard to live with comfortably, I prefer hardwood floors. Life with children and pets is so much less stressful for everyone on hardwood floors.

When Rylan was around a year old, I tripped and fell and dropped him on his back. His head hit the floor pretty hard. Thank goodness for carpeting, because he was okay.

Blue eyes with a twinkle, or chocolate brown do it for me!

Ha! well stated!

Well, I have brown eyes too, but my sister, my father, 3 of my granddaughters and my daughter have blue or green eyes. Dad’s eyes were blue as the sky. My Mom had brown eyes and Auburn hair and several of my relatives are also redheads. Lots of variety here. Dianne

That’s the great thing about being Caucasian: the great variety of colors! Asians are stuck with black hair and brown eyes, alas. Lol.

I took a home decorating course once and they told me that as beautiful as blue is, it fades the most. Therefore, you have to be careful of sunlight if you choose blue. And yes, I like wearing blue too, but I make doubly sure I don’t hang it out in the sun. I just looked it up to be sure and found it’s probably red and blue.

That’s good to know, thanks.

Your chair fabric sounds great. I look forward to seeing it in action! Since I have blue eyes, and most family members do too, I couldn’t afford to swoon every time I see them! 🙂

Haha! That made me laugh, DJan!

Yes, can’t wait to see your new chair fabric against your blue carpet, I’m sure it will be smashing. As for blue eyes…I don’t see enough of those to know if I will swoon. Haha such a funny word.

I wish I had a better camera, because the one I have makes my blue carpet look grey for some reason. I hope it doesn’t do that to my new seat covers!

When we lived in California my next door neighbor had white carpeting. All her kids were grown up and her decorating style could have made any of the magazines. I was always afraid of putting a foot wrong and much preferred it when she came over to my house where my son and his friends ran freely all over our carpet. Our carpet was beige and yes it showed the stains. Now we still have a beige carpet, no longer any kids running all over the place, we don’t drink anything that could stain in the family room You know what? There are times when I still miss having all the kids running everywhere, then of course there are times I like my peace and quiet 😉 Blue and Reds are my favorite colors, though I prefer the darker red to the bright one.

I’ll never install a white carpet again, ever. It’s just too stressful for both hostess and guests! Lol.

I need to change my sofa covers but decided to give it two years more, that deep color sofa now doesn’t show much stains and I am happy. We have floor tiles so not to worry much about it.
Looking forward to the pictures of your new seat covers.

Yeah, I hope the camera does them justice!

I too have tile floors much easier especially with all the sandy soil and three cats. Ha. One of my aunts had purple carpet, didn’t show the stains but it sure showed the lint.

Why is it we sometimes prefer what is different from ourselves — that is, except for those who want everyone to be just like them and discriminate against differences. I recall my mother saying she had hoped I would have brown eyes to go with my red hair. My eye color wasn’t an issue, so I was content with my bluish eyes. Actually, blue has always been my favorite color.
