Here we are in Taiwan

Hello, folks.  Surprise, surprise.  We are here at the Taoyuan Hotel in Taipei, Taiwan.  It is a simple hotel, but the best thing about it is that wi-fi is FREE!!!  Whoa!  Can’t get any better than that.

I know you are wondering how David managed to get to the gates at the various airports.  Well, no wheelchair was necessary, after all.  At HNL, we floated up the escalator from check-in to the upper level.  We told the attendant that we wanted to take the Wiki-Wiki Shuttle to Gate 28.  He radioed a driver and within five minutes, the shuttle arrived.  It would have taken us at least 20 minutes to walk the distance, maybe longer considering David’s sore, arthritic knee, but the shuttle took only four minutes to get there.  The seating area was just inside the door.

We had an easy time at Narita Airport, because the gate was accessible by elevator.  And the airport at Taipei, was easy also.

So, here we are.  This is David resting on his bed in the Taoyuan Hotel in Taipei:

Here is the rest of the room:

It is 2:51 am November 2 in Hawaii, but 8:51 pm November 2 in Taiwan.  Wake-up call is 5:00 am tomorrow morning, November 3.  Guess I should get some shut-eye.  What do you think?

P.S. To answer Palolo’s question in comments:  China Airlines provided a lot more leg room in their 747 jet than we have ever encountered elsewhere.  Further, the jet was new, and there was no shabbiness at all.  Food was excellent.  For lunch, we had a choice between Beef Sukiyaki with Rice and Chicken Parmesan with Pasta.  David chose the Beef and I picked the Chicken.  Mmmm.  We both liked our selections.  Especially me, who loves Italian cuisine. Free drinks:  David drank Taiwan beer, and said it was very good.  As for me, I drank orange and apple juice.  Refreshing.

PPS.  Shocker:  We found out that Japanese Yen was 76 Yen to US$1.00 at Narita Airport just yesterday.  In mid-2008, it was 106 Yen to $1.00 in Waikiki.

Oh how nice the airports recognize that many of us simply need a lift from point A to point B. Good luck to you and David and love the contact via WiFi. Dianne

Travel is hard work wrapped in the guise of “are we having fun yet?” I keep trying anyway. As long as we can manage to travel, it is great to get out and see the world. Have fun.
