India: Silk rug

This silk rug was purchased in Jaipur on Nov 5 and delivered by DHL on Nov 20.  It is 6 x 9 feet and was hand made and hand knotted by a family in Kashmir.  Isn’t it gorgeous?

We laid the rug on the floor in our living room.

This glass coffee table replaces the wooden one we had previously.  We can look through the glass and appreciate the colors and design of the rug.

This silk rug will be passed on from generation to generation for many years to come!

Carpets are big business in the Middle East, elevated to an art and investment. Imagine it being handmade, knot by knot, and made with silk, not wool. Good decision to buy this rug!! This is one of the reasons I like to read your blog…you have great taste and don’t hesitate springing for the purchases.

What a gorgeous rug. It never entered my head that having a glass table would allow you to see even more of the rug. Good taste! Kashmir has a good reputation for rugs. It will also give off our-wonderful-trip-to-India vibrations. From my perspective, it is also a work of art and does all that art does for people.
