Father’s Day at Hoku’s

We celebrated Father’s Day a day early, because it was less expensive to do so.  Hoku’s is quite a classy restaurant, ensconced in a very ritzy resort hotel, The Kahala, in Honolulu.

Our waitress’ name was India, and her mother’s name was also India.  David informed her that we had spent two weeks in northern India last November.  When she asked us if it was depressing there, we emphatically said, “No. We saw the best that India has to offer.”

We were served bread with aioli, a shrimp amuse bouche, and a glass of champagne.

David’s main entrée was Colorado rack of lamb with the chef’s version of eggplant parmagiana.  David liked it because it was “something different.”

My entree was onaga (fish), which sat on top of kale, which sat on top of coconut risotto, and a passion fruit sauce circled the dish.  I was really impressed with the tenderness and moistness of the onaga.  Delicious!  It was also less expensive than the lamb.

For dessert, David ordered the molten chocolate cake with ice cream and berries.  He liked it.

I ordered the triple ice cream with berries.  Very refreshing, I must say.

This meal was not a great way to lose weight, but, you know what?  Who cares!

    Looks grand! I like to visit restaurants on days that are not the holiday….far less crowded.
    Looks like David has seen a bit of sun lately; be sure and grab some sunscreen that isn’t out of date.
    Your muumuu and the hat are a great outfit.

    The food looks fantastic, I’m drooling over the dessert! Happy Father’s Day to David! Some people I know celebrated Father’s Day yesterday as it was more convenient for the adult kids, the daughter flew in for the weekend from out of town.

    We celebrated Father’s Day a day earlier too. Yesterday morning our daughter surprised us with a phone call that they’re coming over with Chinese takeout from Chun Wah Kam. The sole fish dish was so yummy. Son dropped by later. It was an eventful day for us and husband baked three loaves of bread to eat hot thruout the day. He’s mother and father to the kids and why they love him so.

    I have had trouble eating lightly this weekend too. so tomorrow it’s back to counting calories.

    I’d go there just for the desserts – love the hat Gigi, makes you look very elegant.
    Father’s Day in Australia is in September – the hype starts in August 😦
