Things are looking up

Hawaii 013-A

Hawaii.

Good news!  Lisa will be here next month to do her clinical, as required for her doctorate in physical therapy.  It’s a relief for her, because she won’t have to pay rent, though she will have to pay for the air fare.  She will return to the mainland in October.

As for David, he was interviewed for a comptroller position somewhere in Wahiawa.  We hope he gets hired, as the people there seem very nice.  If he does not get the job, he intends to attend classes to become a tax preparer for H & R Block.  The first class is scheduled for later this month.

The Unemployment Office informed David that he will not be paid for last week, as he was out of town on vacation. That’s cool, and David is glad he emailed them about his plans.  Honesty is always the best policy.

And then there’s me.  I now belong to HMSA’s Advantage Select Plan, which supplements Medicare A and B.  The great thing about the Select Plan is that there are no monthly premiums and no annual deductible.  I will just have to pay $7.00 to see a regular doctor or $10.00 to see a specialist.  The Select Plan also covers drugs and vision. For an extra $36 per month, I will be covered under the HMSA Dental Plan.

Things are looking up.

Sounds good, Gigi. I pay a monthly fee for my advantage plan, plus $20 to see my regular doctor and $45 to see a specialist, so your plan sounds awfully good to me! 🙂

My advice…get the dental part of your plan. You won’t regret it. Dianne

    PS Good luck to David.

oh wow Gigi, I was in HR for 10 yrs and would never have know someone does not get paid by the Unemployment Office for going out on vacation. I guess I will have to reserach if it is the same in the state of FL.

Thanks for the info about HMSA Advantage Select plan. I wonder if Kaiser has an equivlent where the copay is very reasonable once we become medicare eligible. Right now we’re paying way too much copay and every year the copay goes higher. But Obamacare premiums are not cheap either if we do not qualify for the subsidy. If 401K plan contributions (solo) do not have to be added back to AGI (as IRAs do) we may qualify. According to Kaiser, we can stay in the plan we currently have.
