Hawaii.
The orthopedist diagnosed David’s hip pain as “mild osteoarthritis.” David was told to not travel next year and to not walk unnecessarily. He is to lose weight by the time he sees the doctor again in two months. Good luck!
In other news, I have withdrawn from hula class, because it is simply too inconvenient for me. I prefer to take an exercise class closer to home or do yoga in the privacy of my home. I am considering ordering a yoga DVD from Amazon soon. I think yoga will be a lot of fun. It will tone my body, too.
In exchange for her homemade cookies, my sister in law Shirley requested that we send her Hawaiian Host Caramacs. These are macadamia nuts covered with chocolate and caramel. We bought her two boxes: one Kona (containing Kona coffee) and one Maui. David was so intrigued that he bought the same for us to try. We both agreed that the Kona coffee caramacs tasted better. We had never tasted caramacs before, so this was a great experience. Thank you, Shirley. She and her family live in Boston.
David and I were happy that Lisa spent Thanksgiving with her friends. They barbecued Korean shortribs and ate bacon wrapped mushrooms, that sort of thing. Our daughter knows how to make friends wherever she goes. Simply amazing! She will be spending her Christmas vacation on the mainland, but will visit us in Hawaii in February, when she will be a bride’s maid at her friend’s wedding.
And so it goes…

Good and bad news about David’s hip. Too bad about the hula classes though.

Young people are so amazing. I worried that my grandchildren would be loners when I put them in the new school. On the contrary, I am introduced to more names than I can remember.

I was saddened to learn you will discontinue hula classes. Also that the hip replacement is on hold. I hope David will lose some weight, because it really will help with his pain. I know my knee is much better without the fifteen pounds I was carrying around. 🙂

Almost every ache and pain that I have is attributed to my weight. My doctor even believes that weight loss will help cure my carpal tunnel syndrome. The more pressure put on me to lose weight the more weight I seem to gain.
I am totally crushed that you are dropping your hula classes. I have envied that of you most of all. But your reasons do make total sense. Oh well, maybe someday again.

That is wonderful about Lisa being so outgoing. Yoga does sound fun. Sorry to hear David still has hip pain. I know from experience that it is hard to lose weight when you have hip and knee pain, and not being able to exercise because of it, so I wish him the best. Those macadamia caramacs sound very tempting. Maybe Santa will drop some in my stocking this year, instead of a lump of coal 🙂

I am sorry to hear David is on hold in doing something about his hip. I hope he is able to lose a little weight.
I am very surprised to hear that you are giving up your Hula class.

From the way he has been suffering, I thought the doctor would look at David’s X-ray and say he needed a replacement. Geez!!
Children grow up and do their own thing. Your Lisa sounds like an independent soul. Isn’t she a bit like you at that age? Dianne

No, she makes friends much easier than I do. I tend to be a loner.

just read about the Amazon drones in the news, how wild!

Yoga is a good all around exercise. You both take care of yourselves. Being told to not walk while also to lose weight doesn’t sound very supportive.

Yes, how does one lose weight without walking? And movement is usually recommended to keep arthritis from taking over. I question this advice. But losing weight is key to everything.
Too bad you felt you had to give up hula. You should have some kind of exercise daily.

Know how painful it can get when the hip is out of control – I am slowly, very slowly better… I should loose a tiny bit of weight, too. I eat very little since I am alone and I walk the dog every day for some time, so this is ok for me…we have a severe storm here, so not much outside since yesterday
