Lace draperies

We finally got around to having our lace draperies cleaned.  Mobile Drapery Cleaners, based in Kailua, came over to our home, removed the drapes from three sets of windows, laundered them in their shop, and re-installed them the same day.  They did a great job of changing the hooks and eyes as well as hemming the drapes where the threads had torn off.  How convenient and efficient!  I recommend them highly.  (They can either dry clean or wash the drapes, depending on the type of fabric.)

Here is a shot of one set of windows:

It’s amazing that the lace has held up so well since the drapes were hung in 1994, twenty years ago.  You would think the lace would be old and brittle by now.  Sears Custom Draperies produced good stuff back then.  It’s too bad they went out of business.

Why did we choose lace for our drapes?  Because I wanted to be able to see the outdoors and because I wanted the air to flow through.  All in all, it was an excellent choice.  I have no regrets.

The drapes have held up beautifully. I do like the airy look.

They are truly beautiful, Gigi. It was a good choice then, but I suspect that the quality today would be much less. :-0

You had to pay a pretty penny for them back in the day. Those are some very nice lace drapes to have lasted such a long time and in such good condition. As always your taste is lovely.

They are everything you wanted them to be, and probably will be as good in another twenty years. It appears they are not in the path of the sun, which might have destroyed them.

I love lace curtains. I had them on every window, however the downstairs is mostly bare or has blinds. I like a little light to come through. Your drapes behind the sofa are perfect.

This sounds like a great company! And a job well done. The drapes look very attractive.

I have nets at most of my windows too – similar look to our lounge room and bedroom. Theses days The Gilfer gives me a hand to take them down and put back up after I’ve washed them, no ironing tho, just put them back up onto the rail straight from the spin cycle and they dry very quickly. Wasn’t that many years ago I did it all. Y myself.
You are lucky to have a company that will provide a service like that, I don’t think there is one like it here.

Nice recommendation for that company, Gigi, which obviously did a nice and very speedy job. I too dislike taking down and washing curtains. We have sheer ones on our windows, which thankfully are washable. Yours have definitely withstood the years well.
