Celebrating our 34th wedding anniversary

On June 28, David wrote the following poem in honor of our 34th wedding anniversary:

“34 years of joy and fun,

“Glenda, Glenda, Glenda’s the one!”

You do know that Glenda is my real name and Gigi-Hawaii is my pen name, don’t you?

Here we are at Japengo Restaurant at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki:

Japengo 009-A

It’s a Japanese restaurant, open for dinner from 6 pm to 10 pm nightly.  Valet parking is free.  This is the beautiful scenery on the ground floor of the hotel on the way to the restaurant:

This is the third floor entrance to the restaurant:

We ordered the Kamaaina Menu for $49.  It consisted of 4 courses plus a glass of wine.

Chilled Hamachi and Ikura.  The Ikura is quail eggs.  This dish comes with radish and jalapeno with garlic and bonito soy:

Ocean Cappuccino.  This soup in a coffee mug consisted of large chunks of lobster, Alaskan crab, prawn, and Chinese cabbage.  The broth was flavored with kaffir and lemongrass with a dash of cream:

Butter Poached Fillet Mignon.  This came with sake creamed spinach, Hamakua mushrooms, garlic potato puree, white soy and black truffle sauce:

(The other choice for the main entrée was a fish selection.)

Finally, the fourth course (dessert) was a Flourless Chocolate Bar with Vanilla Gelato, Strawberries and Whipped Cream:

David and I would give this restaurant 4 out of 5 stars.  The food was good, but the ambiance was nothing special and was rather informal.  You know us; we prefer fine dining.

Anyway, we have come such a long way as a married couple.  Not many people gave our marriage a chance, thinking we would end up divorced.  After all, two of my sisters are divorced.  Here we are, 34 years later, still going strong.  Sure, we have our arguments, but that’s because we are not doormats.  When we have a difference of opinion, we do let each other know.  Somehow, we always seem to reach a compromise.

Bottom line:  We love living together.
