Chronic infection

Waimea Falls 001-A

I don’t know what’s going on in David’s left ear.  He has been complaining about tinnitus and hearing loss for months.  Dr. K treated it with ear drops and also removed wax on two occasions.

Well, this week David’s tinnitus was so bad that he saw Dr. K a third time and learned there was pus in the ear canal.  The fluid in his ear was drained and tested.  Two types of bacteria were found, and David was prescribed Cipro (antibiotic pills) and ear drops.  Let’s hope this treatment cures him once and for all.

I attribute his infection to swimming in the pool at the gym every night, but David doesn’t think so, as he uses ear plugs and the water is chlorinated.

What else could be causing this problem?

I also suffer from ear infections, and I have all my life. I think there are just weak places in our bodies where infection can take hold. I’ll bet this will take care of it, and David can continue to get well! 🙂

I had tinnitus for years after a really bad infection in my 30s. An ear, nose and throat specialist told me I could have an operation, that it might cure it or it might make it worse. I chose to live with it and one day I woke up and it had gone but this was after many years. It comes back for a limited time when I have a bad cold. I heard a few years later that William Shatner had tinnitus and he had a hearing aid that gave off a ‘white noise’ which added balance to the ear noise and cancelled it out. I am not sure about this whole story but maybe he can mention it to his doctor and see what the doctor says. I hope it gets better soon as I know from experience it can be horrendous to deal with.

I do hope the doctor gets to the bottom of it. I lived with severe ear infections the first forty years of my life. Ruptured ear drums, severe pain. Then it moved around to my sinuses. That I can deal with. David has my sympathy and best wishes.

    Cipro’s powerful, hope it works.

Anything wrong with our ears is not funny. I suffered for years as a child, but thankfully outgrew it.

  6. Linda Reeder Says:

I’m glad he finally got to the source of the problem. Now to figure out what’s triggering it.

  7. Granny Annie Says:

Tis the season. Everyone is suffering with something. Ear pain is no fun and glad he is getting some help. I would still blame the swimming even with the earplugs.

I stopped using the pool because the chemicals they use irritates my skin. I never put my head under water. I suspect the pool is the culprit. Ear plugs never did anything for me.

  9. Diana Says:

I agree with Granny Annie and Schmidleys. Hope David will be better real soon. Please update his situation.
