One section of our family room. Notice the paintings on the walls and the photographs on the bookcase and CD cabinets:
David and I love our home, because it contains all of our own stuff. There was no interior decorator, no stranger telling us how to decorate our house. We chose everything ourselves. This is one of the joys of owning one’s home: Having the freedom to hang all kinds of artwork on our walls and change the drapes, flooring, and wallpaper. There is no landlord to veto our decisions or choices.
Our tenant seems to like his private room and bathroom. Recently, he asked if he could return to us the dining table, two dining chairs, and toaster oven, because he wanted to install a sofa opposite the TV. The sofa contained a sleeper, which would be used by his son when he visited from the mainland. We approved the plan and viewed our tenant’s room for the first time since he moved in last June. He had decorated it with large framed pictures of his relatives and home on the mainland, as well as a row of baseball caps, featuring various teams. He sure made the room his own by personalizing it. More power to him!
We should all personalize our home. Make it a joy to see and live in!
