Let the good times roll

Sunset in Hawaii.  (Photo by Ted Trimmer)

I didn’t realize that retirement could be so good.  David and I are very happy and content.  We have money in the bank, adequate income, and no debt.

The main thing to avoid is stress, especially interpersonal stress.  Someone said, “Hell is other people.”  That is true.  On the other hand, someone also said, “Heaven is other people.”  That, too, is true.

I often wonder why people, who believe in God, go out and kill other people, who also believe in God, simply because they don’t belong to their religion.  Why can’t we live and let live?  If we would all mind our own business and live in peace and harmony, this would be a better world.

I am so fortunate to have a husband, two daughters, and two grandchildren.  They make me so unbelievably happy.  I enjoy remembering the good times.  And it’s still ongoing, you know.  Our life together hasn’t ended, yet.

If only everyone were as happy as I am now.

Gigi, I love that you are having a wonderful retirement and are so happy. That photo is simply lovely — all the beauty of the world in that sunset. Thanks for your visits. I’m trying to catch up!

Someone once said, ‘Most people are as happy as they make up their minds to be.” That’s only partially true. David and I worked hard for what we have and we were both fortunate to have had good jobs, which we got because we earned marketable degrees degrees.

At present all four of my granddaughters are employed and two of them signed a lease together on an apartment in Newport News VA which means they have left the nest. An empty nest can be fun.

As for why people kill each other, most violence has been brought about because of sectarian violence. Old ethnic hatreds have fueled most of the world’s woes in the past 50 years. Second comes ideology…both fascist and communist, or left and right. Many more people died under Communism than under the Nazis, and that’s saying a lot.

I have some concern today because folks often blame religion, but on closer examination, that is seldom the root cause of violence. For example Muslims are killing Muslims in the Middle East.

    Okay, off my soapbox.

Then, there are the Protestants vs. the Catholics in Northern Ireland.
      The Nazis vs. the Jews.
      The Islamists vs. the Christians.

My point is: Why do people, who believe in God, also believe in killing fellow human beings? Isn’t murder forbidden?

Everybody killed Jews. Many of them died at Communist hands. History shows that ethnicity ( religion can be a facet of but is not identical with ethnicity) is the major underlying cause of conflict.

That’s a very good title…as though momentum and status quo are all you need.

If we could all just say “God Is” and leave it at that. Why must we bicker with the breakdown of the theology? The happiness you feel is something we can all have if we count our blessings.

Do you anyone that regrets retiring?

  14. Beatrice P. Boyd Says:

Gigi, in many ways our current situation is very similar. Grenville/Pat and I are both retired with no debts and sufficient savings to sustain us. We are happy together and enjoy both similar and different actvities. We have learned its best not too share too much with other people who may be less content or joyful. As to why people kill one another, there seems (sadly) to be no sane explanation.

That is such a stunning photo! Thank you for this post.
