Update on physical therapy

David has been making considerable progress at Straub Clinic, undergoing physical therapy twice or thrice per week. His co-payment is $25 per one hour visit, which he considers affordable.  His insurance is Humana HMO.

He spends the hour doing stretching exercises like this:

leg press, stretching, ice 018-A

Then he does a leg press, amounting to 120 lbs:

He also uses the recumbent bicycle for ten minutes.  Note the array of machines at Straub:

Note the scar on his right knee, which is healing quite well:

His physical therapist massages and stretches his leg to make it more flexible and less swollen. Towards the end of the session, he places an ice pack on David’s knee for ten minutes:

David’s range of motion is currently at 107 degrees. His goal is 110-120 degrees.  He continues to do his stretching exercises at home. Eventually, he will be able to drive to and from the movie theater and to and from the gym.

Meanwhile, I will always be here to help my husband.

He’s doing great! I love the fact that I have all those same machines at the Y where I work out, plus many more. 🙂

GIGI check out Arthritis Today, July/August issue, page 55, “Pain with New Knees.” Great article on how/why we continue to have pain even after surgery. Hopefully David avoids this phenomena.

Looks like hard work to get the knee to where his range of motion will be good, but certainly worth the effort.
