Car repair: Before and After

On July 28, 2017, a huge box truck was passing into the right lane when the lug nuts on the truck’s tires tore into the left side of David’s car.  Police were called, and the truck driver admitted he was at fault.

I photographed David’s damaged car (2010 Toyota Camry) on our driveway:

David took his car to DADS Auto Body Shop in Aiea for an estimate, which turned out to be more than $4,200.  The quote was relayed to the truck driver’s insurance company, Traveler’s, which approved it.  Traveler’s also permitted David to rent a Ford Focus from Enterprise.  In both cases, there would be no charge to David.

Nine days later, David was able to return the rented car to Enterprise and pick up his repaired car from DADS.  He is very pleased with the results.

I photographed David’s repaired car on our driveway.  The paint has such a wonderful sheen to it that my clothes and porch are reflected on the car doors:

Later, David had his car’s air conditioning system repaired and one of his tires patched.  His car works perfectly now, and all thoughts of buying a new car have disappeared.  He wants to be frugal by purchasing a new car only when the old car can’t be fixed anymore.  Hopefully, there won’t be another accident.

Glad this all worked out for you. I always call our insurance company first (AAA) and they work out all the details. Good insurance companies do good work.

I found you through dkzody’s link. The repair looks great. He’s smart to wait until his car cannot be repaired before getting a new one. You save so much money that way. I got a new car a couple of years ago, but my philosophy is to keep it until it leaves you in a ditch. 🙂
