Movies and memories

That’s me in the orange gown at my Thai students’ wedding in Bangkok, Thailand in 1969.

Last Sunday, David and I saw a nice opera by French composer Gounod at the Blaisdell.  It was based on Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet.”  I remember seeing the Hollywood movie in 1969 in Thailand, and the tears streaming down my face.  That didn’t happen when I saw the opera, but it was sung very well in French.  I especially enjoyed listening to Amanda Woodbury, the lyric soprano who sang the part of Juliet.  She had such a supple voice.

Last Tuesday, David saw the movie, “First Man,” a true story about Neil Armstrong, who was the first man to walk on the moon in 1969.  I did not see the movie myself, but I do remember seeing a live broadcast of the moon landing at Bank of America in Thailand.  I was depositing a check and watching the TV monitor placed on the counter at the bank.

I still have a keen memory after all these years.

I too remember the Romeo and Juliet movie starring Olivia Hussey. It was so true to the play. It was awesome. On July 20, 1969 I remember rushing home to see the moon walk by Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin. It was amazing. I was so proud to be an American. America fulfilled Kennedy’s Promise to have a man on the moon by 1970.

I don’t think I’ll see that movie, but I too remember the moon landing and watching it on TV. I’m going to see A Star Is Born tomorrow. 🙂

I heard about that new movie. I was 10 years old and listened to the landing on the radio in the car with my dad. One of those events where we remember what we were doing at the time.

Lovely photo of you and student’s wedding. I remember, too, watching the moon landing on TV — his words — incredible sight as I anxiously viewed the whole mission, hoping all would be safe and setting foot back on planet earth soon — our Ohio boy, Neil Armstrong.

I would like to see First Man. You are lovely in that dress.
