Lab tests: Good and bad

Chocolate haupia cream pies are something I have to cut due to high triglycerides.

David and I have had blood tests at Straub Clinic that show we are not doing poorly. He is pre-diabetic, but his cholesterol scores are excellent, which means he doesn’t have heart disease. He just has to cut the carbs and sugar, that’s all.

I, on the other hand, have high triglycerides, which could lead to heart attack or stroke. I have to cut the ice cream and cream pies that I tend to like too much. But, my glucose scores are excellent. I am not pre-diabetic.

Of course, David and I have other problems that don’t show up on the blood tests. However, we are not going to die soon because of our ailments. We’ll be fine if we watch our diet and don’t get into a tragic car accident.

What I need to address is my chronic coughing. I’ll have to see the doctor soon about that.

I cut out sweets a long time ago and rarely crave them any more but when I used to eat sugary items I was always craving them. We occasionally get talenti gelato, it is expensive though.

My doctor is not concerned about my slightly elevated A1C score of 5.9. My glucose is normal at 98. My cholesterol is great at 123. My LDL is 45. My triglycerides are low. I am trying to say that my doctor did not give me instructions on pies and ice cream. I need the calcium from ice cream so I will not give it up.

I have wondered when I see how rich the food you enjoy has affected you. Much of my difficulty is from my heredity, but my exercise and diet has helped a lot. I must take a statin, however, and still my cholesterol is higher than David’s. 🙂

All these things are sent to try us – my GP says ‘all things in moderation but a little less of ‘xyz’ would be better.
