Everyone is paranoid

I am so paranoid about contracting the Coronavirus that I hesitate to dine at restaurants, where the chefs or customers might have the virus. When we have a hankering for restaurant food, we just buy take-out.

It’s been reported that there are fewer customers in Chinatown here in Hawaii. Business in Chinatown has taken a nose dive.

Everyone is paranoid.

I wonder if sales of Corona beer have lagged because of the Coronavirus disease. Rest assured the beer has nothing to do with the virus.

This is a photo I took of our Mexican meal at Compadres in March 2008. Note the two Corona beers we ordered:

On the other hand, we are forced to attend concerts, operas, musicals and plays, because we already have the tickets and don’t want to waste them. So far so good, we are still relatively healthy despite exposing ourselves to germs in the theatre.

Basically, though, we try to avoid crowds of people.

In Hawaii 35 people are under self quarantine with one person interred at Pearl Harbor. No sign of the disease in Hawaii. No cause for concern. Life is short. Do not preoccupy yourself with these matters. Be happy, don’t worry!

An ounce of prevention is a pretty good idea.

  3. Christine Says:

Hopefully the virus will come under control soon.

I am puzzled about what Corona beer has to do with the virus. Is it just the name?

There have been terrible examples of Chinese racism over this virus. It doesn’t take much to unleash hatred these days.

Masks have been proven to be useless. I do hope the airports and ports are practicing due diligence in screening people.

…it sounds to me that we all have a greater chance of getting the regular flu. Here on Maui I see a lot of face masts.

  7. Arkansas Patti Says:

It is time now to be diligent about all flu’s since the flu shots are only partially good for the seasonal flu. I asked my sisters not to fly here as planned. I couldn’t live with myself if anything happened to them. We just need to ride this out and be careful.

Sadly, prejudice about Chinese people and Chinese businesses is happening here too. And so is prejudice against people who ‘look’ Chinese.

I am too, Gigi. Even though we don’t have cases in Michigan (yet). My lung issues are significant with underlying complications and I worry terribly about catching even pneumonia. Thanks for stopping by today!

I carry around hand sanitizer in my purse nowadays – but I always forget to use it. This reminds me – I am going to wash my hands right now.

I understand the paranoia completely. We are delighted we are not sailing the seven seas any more for My Honey’s work. 50 years was enough for him and I was with him for the last 20. Even without a world pandemic we were constantly aware of health concerns on board. We have tremendous sympathy for passengers and crew on affected ships. Terrible.

On the other hand, our daughter is in Honolulu this week. I wasn’t so thrilled about her flying in a big metal tube sharing the air with other passengers for all of those miles in both directions. She is with a friend, a doc who is there on business. Catherine will be home Sunday morning and we’ll be happy to have her healthy and home!

    Listen to David. He’s right.

It is worrying but I think we have to carry on while using precautions that make us feel more comfortable.

I think it is the same the world over, certainly here where popular Asian restaurants are nearly deserted. While I understand your caution, the chances are extremely low for people in western countries to catch the virus. I am not sure that there has even been a single person to person infection in a western country.

The Corona beer comment made me laugh but then I got sad thinking about how easy it is to get people to believe there is some connection. I fear that the real pandemic is a viral wiping out of critical thinking skills.

  16. Nancy Chan Says:

The situation over here is the same. Many try to avoid public places.

The Corona seems a scary sound, even for the favorite beer 🙂

I’ve been horrified to read of some of the discriminatory acts taken against Chinese here in Southern California. Absolutely mindless.

There seem also to be people deliberately trying to stir up violence for any reason, often targeted at individuals of minority races in the U.S. — an ongoing effort to create division in our country for undesirable reasons.
