Las Vegas, Nevada (1998)

In 1998, David and I won a free 5 day trip to Las Vegas, Nevada. We stayed at the California Hotel, but did visit casinos and restaurants on the Strip. We also met up with friends I knew from an online chat room site, called City Pub. We had a great time socializing and gambling. We didn’t win any money, but we lost only $200 total. It was quite an experience nevertheless.

Our younger daughter, Lisa, resides in Las Vegas, where she is employed as a licensed physical therapist. She says the cost of living there is very low, and she does not have to pay Nevada state income tax. She owns a modern 3 bedroom 2 bath house, which she could never afford in Hawaii, where the cost of real estate is astronomical.

These are photos of our trip in 1998 long before Lisa moved there :

I have lost touch with these online chat room friends, but seeing these photos brings a smile to my face as I recall the fun I had chatting with them. I think chat rooms have now been replaced by Twitter, Facebook and blogs.

Memories…

That was a very memorable trip. Actually the highlight for me was the trip to the Hoover dam. Those huge turbines were a wonder to behold. The rest of the trip with the City Pub friends was outstanding. The buffets and the shows were amazing. These memories keep me going through these difficult times. You can never take our memories away!

I spent one night in Las Vegas on either end of a trip included a raft trip in the Grand Canyon and a road trip around the trisecting areas of Nevada, Utah and Arizona. I love to think back on the trips I was able to take with my husband.

Yes, it’s really nice to look back at our memories of happier times. I never used chat rooms, so I am unfamiliar with how they worked.

Never tried a chat room but evidently it worked out fine for you. Nice that you have the pictures to remember such a fun time. Losing $200? That is considered winning in Vegas:))

It is not somewhere I have ever considered as a travel destination – but you obviously had a wonderful time.
And how nice that your daughter has found it an economical place to work and live.

Great memories. My partner always wanted to visit but it is too late for him now. I too used to enjoy chat rooms and at times miss them.
