All these years, I had been sitting on a dining chair while using the desktop computer. I complained about pain in my joints and had difficulty standing up, because the chair had no arms.
So, we ordered an ergonomic office chair from Amazon. It cost $110 plus tax. Shipping was free, because we subscribe to Amazon Prime.
“Ergonomics” is a term that fits the job to the person. Ergonomics leads to less muscle fatigue and increased productivity.
It’s a nice chair. By pulling a lever on the side, I can raise the seat or lower it. The arms can be raised also. The back support is amazing. And the chair swivels.
The brochure states that the ideal maximum weight is 250 lbs. However, the brochure also states that the chair can sustain 300 lbs., if necessary.
By the way, this chair was made in China. I have found that the Chinese make amazing furniture. My blue leather sofa set was made in China. It is beautiful, and I am pleased with the workmanship.

Overall, I like the chair, especially because it swivels, and the arms are there to lean on when I stand up.

Yes that was another great purchase. The chair is as advertised. One good thing is that this chair takes the wear and tear away from our dining chair. One of our chairs has already had the fabric worn thin. This will solve the problem.

So glad you got a good chair for your needs. Terry has a very high end desk chair that he inherited from an organization that was getting all new furniture. Our cats love the chair too. Like you, for years I used a wooden dining chair at my desk. A couple of years ago, when I was considering ways to help my balance and strengthen my core, I got a yoga ball for my desk. I’m still using it and loving it. It has made a big improvement in strengthening my core.

I have gotten rid of my BarcaLounger and all chairs with soft arms and, particularly, one sofa that was the bane of my existence. I was trapped in them and couldn’t get up easily. I can push off wooden arms or even the back of a no-arms chair. Chairs with no arms work okay because they are usually situated near a table which I can push off of. (As Winston Churchill satirically observed, “The rule that you cannot end a sentence with a preposition is a lot of nonsense up with which I will not put.”)
When I taught at UH-West Oahu, the enlightened policy was to give us an ergonomic chair if we requested it, which I did.

For local people in Hawaii, rattan furniture has the wooden arms that do the job. They tell me rattan is actually a vine, but, no matter, it does the ergonomic job and is visually compatible with Hawaii. Rattan furniture often has striking fabric designs of Hawaiian flowers.

Having good back support is important. I’m getting back to the point where I don’t have to push up out of chairs anymore. except for my recliner if I sit there too long.
