Our landscapers came by last week to clean up our yard. They did a great job.
One of the things they tackled was the giant monstera, which was overgrown with decaying leaves.
The giant monstera is really huge. It is larger than the usual potted monstera grown inside your home.
The monstera grows well in a tropical, humid environment like Hawaii.
There are 51 varieties.
This is what the leaf looks like compared to the human hand:
This is how it looks in my backyard:
The root system looks like a snake, doesn’t it?
We kind of like it.
It’s an interesting plant. Very unusual. Not your usual ornamental plant.
We inherited it from the previous owner of this house.
I think we’ll keep this thing in our backyard for now.
After all, what else could we possibly grow there?

That is a very unique plant. I have not seen another like it. It really adds to the ambience of our back yard. It helps make our house a home.

We have this plant here but I haven’t anything as big as yours. I like the giant leaves. The root system looks scary but they are very unique.

The whole time I’m reading and looking at this, I thought “Is Gigi going to mention the giant snake coiled around her monstera?” So cool that’s the plants root! I just learned something new today, thanks for sharing 🙂

I love it and it does look like a giant snake around the bottom. I bet that would do well here in Florida too. I’m going to look for one the next time I go plant shopping.

What a magnificent specimen. It puts ours (of a different variety) to shame.

The leaves are beautiful but I would have to get used to those snake like roots/stems!

I love it! Thanks for explaining the root system; I thought it was a decoration based on the name “monstera.” 🙂
