Their blog nickname is Beowulf — Mr. and Mrs. Patek, UH safety Jacob’s parents. Jacob made the first sack of the game and also intercepted a pass in the 1st quarter. He will graduate in May with a Bachelor’s degree in History. Could the NFL be around the corner?
Mrs. A-House enjoyed the Pateks’ company.
Made-in-Hawaii and Beowulf
Tailgate coordinator Kazz and Masaboy. Kazz is famous for his tender, juicy and flavorful steaks!
Barry Markowitz, Jason, and Koakane
Oka, a Samoan ceviche made by Barry’s wife. It consisted of ahi, tomatoes, onions, and cucumbers in coconut milk. It was cold and refreshing! I loved it!
Koakane, Bulla (squatting), and Al
Midori7, Calvin from Kona, and Jojo. Calvin bought 40 tickets to the game for $32 each and sold them for $120 each. He definitely is a scalper – a very shrewd one!
d1Shima, Koakane, and James sang their high school alma maters. Hey, they sang in tune! Lovely, guys!
Jason distributed the Co-ed UH Fight Song, typed on small bits of paper, and everybody sang along. See below for the lyrics.
Ukuleleboi, Claudia, and LizKauai. Liz has a beautiful voice and will be singing solo in a Mozart concert next weekend. So don’t expect her at the Washington game, because she fears she might lose her voice.
David and SteveM with Aloha Stadium in the background
Liz is standing on a chair to take a photo of our group. I am the one wearing a black muumuu in the front.
In a thrilling game, UH beat Boise State 39-27 and won the WAC Championship for the first time in school history! Yay! (My prediction of 37-30 was pretty close, but David’s 49-28 was way off.)
I thought it was marred by the 15 yard penalty called on WR Davone Bess for somersaulting into the endzone (unsportsmanlike conduct). What was Davone thinking? He was called for the same penalty in a previous game. Why didn’t he learn his lesson? The penalty at kickoff resulted in a BSU touchdown. Grrrr…
I’ll close this story with the Co-Ed UH Fight Song, because it is so appropriate:
Here’s to our dear Hawaii
Here’s to our Green and White
Here’s to our Alma Mater
Here’s to the team with fight
Rah! Rah! Rah!
Here’s to old warriors calling
Here’s to old battles won
Here’s to Hawaii’s victory
Here’s to each valiant son!

Fantastic pictures Gigi. The gang is getting bigger and bigger. Thanks for posting the pix, what a great bunch of folks.
Oh, tonight was Bess’ third penalty for that dive. He needs to get a talking to.

Thanks for the photos. Love putting a face with the names. I think I may have seen Calvin from Kona here once or twice in Kona. How funny! And, Jojo looks exactly how I pictured her. Hopefully some day I can meet y’all in person.

Hopefully, more bloggers will attend the post-season party in January. No date has been set and we are still not sure if the coaches and seniors can attend. But I know one thing — it will be FUN!

Hey Grandma! Only one picture of the food?!?!?! What is up with that?
I am starting to put names with faces. I wish, as I am sure many of us out-of-state fans do, I could be there for all of this. In another year the T-Gates will be huge! That is one of the things I miss about Hawai’i.
Oh well, I made the decision to move here. One of these days — maybe.
Keep well!

Wafan, I took a photo of the dish that I considered the most unusual, the Oka, because the rest of the food was typical local fare — chicken katsu, roast pork, chow mein, chow fun, sushi, etc.
November 24, 2007 at 1:29 pm |
But, it is not typical local fare for those of us trapped up here! Have a heart! A guy can have only so much crackers, cheese and fruit before losing his mind. HA!

Oh, you poor t’ing! I’ll see what I can do next time.

gigi
I enjoyed meeting you and everyone else at the tailgate. The pictures are great! What a memory making day. Jacob is doing well. His ankle is a little stiff, but he soaked it in ice and should be ready for the Washington game.

Hi Beowulf,
You are both so photogenic! Thanks for coming to the tailgate; it was great meeting you. Hope to see Jacob in action next Saturday and we all wish him well.
