Hong Kong Island

Hong Kong Island is one of 235 islands. Lantau, where the airport is located, is another. Kowloon, however, is a peninsula, and that is where the YMCA Salisbury is situated. Today, we took a 5 hour guided tour of Hong Kong Island by motor coach. Kowloon is connected to Hong Kong Island by 3 tunnels, so we did not have to take the ferry this time.

First, we went all the way up to VICTORIA PEAK. Unfortunately, the view of Hong Kong was very hazy due to fog, humidity (92%), and smog (from factories in mainland China).

Here we are at Victoria Peak:

ABERDEEN FISHING VILLAGE, where families still live on boats. We toured the harbor by sampan (water taxi):

The world’s largest floating restaurant.

DYNASTY JEWELRY WORKSHOP AND STORE. I bought a pair of 14K white gold earrings, which were shaped into lovely flowers:

STANLEY MARKET, where I bought a helicopter toy for my grandkids, a porcelain plate containing our picture at Victoria Peak, and David bought 2 Tshirts:

After shopping, we returned to Kowloon via the tunnel and were dropped off at our hotel. We had a buffet dinner at the YMCA, finished off with a light show in the skies over the harbor. Too bad my camera could not capture the colorful light show.

That water taxi looks like great fun. The pictures are great, too, except for the smog.

I like the views of the city rising out of the fog – it seems to go on forever that way. But the water tour looks just amazing: I’m glad you posted so many photos of it!

It sounds like a wonderful day, but I’m tired just reading about all you did LOL

I remember that humid haze, but I don’t think the smog was so bad when I was there in ’99.
