Lisa returned from Sydney, Australia on Monday. I asked her if she saw a koala bear while there. She said that animals are not her thing. She saw other things, such as the bridge, China Town, and other parts of the city. She also advised against our traveling there, because it requires a lot of walking, something David can’t do.
On Tuesday, Lisa returned to Nevada, where she works as a physical therapist.
The bad news is that she was driving my car on Monday, when the tire shredded. A tow truck came by and replaced the tire with a spare. That, too, shredded. So, the car was towed to Goodyear. I was told that Hyundai-Hawaii does not have 13 inch tires in stock. If we want new tires, we will have to prepay and Hyundai will order the tires from the West Coast. Or we could replace the 13 inch tires with 14 inch tires. Of course, we could search the junk yard for 13 inch tires.
We decided to either sell or donate the old Hyundai Accent, 2002, and buy a new Hyundai Accent, 2016. That’s the blue one in the second photo. This new car has great warranties and terrific features. The tires are larger at 14 inches.
I just love small subcompact cars.

This reminds me our minivan needs new tires. Our cars also have separate sets of snow tires for winter driving. Most cars these days can have all-season tires but snow tires are a lot safer and is in fact the law in Montreal. Here in Toronto it is a choice.

Wow! Was it just Hyundai that didn’t have 13″ tires? With all of the compact cars on the island it’s surprising that there aren’t any somewhere else.

I don’t know the answer to your question. I just hope they don’t phase out the 14 inch tires on our new car. It seems tires are getting bigger and bigger these days. Some cars even have 17 inch tires.

Your new car is sure pretty! I recently replaced the tires on my Honda Civic, just the usual size I guess. As you said, all’s well that ends well. 🙂

We have been buying Hyundai cars since 1987 & keep them it seems forever, our first an Excel they don’t even make anymore, it lasted I think 15 years, I don’t even drive I know how to but I can walk most everywhere and up until a few months ago I biked everywhere..We have a wonderful Sonata and it bodes us well we keep it fine, in our garage and don’t go long distances, our friends are prius owners and we go everywhere with them and they won’t take money for gas so I make big feasts for them to eat and we go to the shore and share times with friends I have known since kindergarten can you imagine, many are widows and widowers but in my mind they are still my best friends from kindergarten and my hubs helps out the ladies without their mates..Hyundai tires are something else so we always checked the sizes when we got a new car and some lasted most did not but the place we always gave us a great deal as it is a local place and we only have purchased all our Hyundais from that place..The fellow by the way is from Hawaii and a native islander he treats people like Kings and Queens what is there not to like with that..Aloha, cloudy and raining here and expected to do so for a week, we are off to the shore where big winds will come and waves, the sea in all its forms calls to me aloha!

Too bad about the tires not being readily available, Gigi. If they were, you old model might have still been in use. However, it is nice to have a brand new model and warranties as well — good luck.

We have a Hyundai also! It is an Elantra and we are pleased with it.

A new car is certainly nice to have. That tire situation does seem odd. I wonder if it has to do with tires having to be shipped to Hawaii from the mainland?
I noticed you posted that you are going to rent a car in SF. Is that just for out of town excursions? I don’t think you’ll want a car in the city as the public transportation is so easy (or a taxi) and driving in the crazy traffic is such a pain. We always kept our car parked when we were living in SF and took public transportation. Parking is so expensive in the city, too.

We are using the car to get to and from the airport and our out of city excursions.
