Thinking and scheming

Travis Shanna wedding 006-A

Hawaii.

People who peek into my life say:  “What does she do all day?  I couldn’t bear to live like her.  I would be so bored.”

Ha.  If they only knew.  Though I sit and sit, doing nothing in particular, my mind is very busy.  I am constantly planning and organizing, trying to improve my lifestyle.

For example, I have decided to be pro-active by having two grab bars installed on my shower walls – just in case I have vertigo and fall or in case David needs support after his knee surgery.  Why wait until something bad happens?

Another example of my thinking and scheming:  I have decided to sell the cemetery plot that my father purchased for me.  I could use the extra money, and when David and I die, our heirs can bury our ashes under that lovely pink and green tree in the backyard.  Expect an ad on Craigslist in the near future.

And then, there’s our trip to Las Vegas next year:  I have decided that we will have a $4,000 budget for that trip.  It will pay for our air fare, hotel, food, ground transportation, gambling, shows, and gifts.  David and I have discussed possibilities for entertainment, such as seeing the David Copperfield magic show, and the Cirque du Soleil show with Beatles music (there’s another one with Michael Jackson music, but I don’t care for Michael Jackson music.  Give me the Beatles any day!)  Someone suggested Elton John (if he is still performing in Vegas), but I don’t like Elton John, not to mention that awful Britney Spears.  As for gambling, we will take a little money with us, and when that is gone, we intend to walk away from the casino before we get into debt.  And, of course, we will spend quality time with Lisa before and after her graduation ceremony.

So, you see, little old me is very busy mentally, though slothful physically.

My Ron used to say that 90% of every job is the planning:) And yes the grab bars are an excellent idea. We had them installed for Ron and I am so happy to have them now that my leg is giving me problems.

that’s all good planning Gigi! Always good to have a plan I think! What happened to your hula classes? Exercise is a good thing.

Those grab bars are a great idea. Having several elderly relatives who visit now, and yes thinking of our own needs in the future, when we finally get our bathroom renovating done, I will add grab bars to the list.

I’ve had people tell me, because I am retired, that they couldn’t retire and be so bored. I can truthfully say I am busier than ever and never get a chance to be bored.

Your Las Vegas trip sounds fun and will be something to look forward to. My niece and husband in Germany want to meet up with us and have a holiday in England together next year. I have already agreed and Gregg and I are looking forward to it. Our brief holiday in England has given me the urge to go back for a longer spell, to see the sights I didn’t get to see this time.

You are definitely active intellectually. Now we just have to get you moving a little bit more, for the health benefits. I also wondered about the hula classes, are you on a break? 🙂

I have decided to do without hula for now, because it costs too much. Same for opera, football, and Pen Women.

planning is half the battle of everything, we try to go to free places for exercise, up an down the stairs here is quite a challenge. Ha.

Grab bars are a great idea! We are having bar #3 installed in David’s shower, today. He has finally accepted the notion that they are a safety precaution!

I had an Aunt who took x amount of quarters with her to play the slots at Ocean City. When they were gone, that was it. I myself don’t gamble at all. Heck, playing a game of Monopoly stresses me.

Shows in Las Vegas? Attended a convention there years ago. Stayed at the old MGM. Huge stinky place. Slot machines at every table in the dining area. Or was that Keno? Don’t know. Had no great love for this city. Did not attend any shows…boring to me.

I am not a party girl.

It’s a great show in Vegas. Schmidly hasn’t been to Vegas recently. It’s lots of fun….clamg, clang, ding, ding, ding.

Thinking is a good mental exercise to do while you are WALKING, and walking is free. Get moving, Gigi, before you lose your mobility.

I know everyone loves Vegas but I think Lake Tahoe is prettier!

Does David still have a gym membership? Shame he does but you are giving up hula and other activities because they cost. Maybe he could show you how to do the weight training using cans at home for free!
Seriously tho – we are all trying to use our minds to stop them deteriorating but so many for various reasons shy away from exercise. Does your local community centre have exercise classes for seniors at reduced rates? Also have you approached your hula teacher about reduced rates for seniors?
Whatever Gigi enjoy life – we only get one go at it

It is too bad you have given up the hula class….it seemed like you really enjoyed it. It sounds like you have your Las Vegas trip very well planned.

Your mental planning gymnastics will definitely enhance the enjoyment of your trip, as will a pre-established “walk-away” plan.

But I, like your other blogging friends, am concerned about the physical. A vigorous walk in a beautiful or unique place with a friend improves my attitude and my physical sense of well-being. For me its the bridge spanning Biloxi Bay.

Almost a year after my stroke I started out at a shuffle, holding on to my friend while walking along a level paved beach trail with seating available along the sides. Now on the bridge I am usually doing at least 1.2 miles roundtrip. It is exhausting and exhilarating. And it’s free!

I think everyone, no matter what the age, should have grab bars in their shower and bathroom. As for Cirque du Soleil, we went to the one in Orlando the year before last (not the Beatles), and I remember it was tres bon, and also tres cher.
