Why no restaurant reviews?

We celebrated our 42nd Wedding Anniversary at Chef Chai (June 2022). The 4-course dinner was fabulous!

You might be wondering why I have not posted any restaurant reviews lately. The last one was posted on May 27.

Well, believe it or not, David and I have been dining out quite frequently. Recently, we had lunch at Romano’s Macaroni Grill. I ordered delicious Chicken Scallopine, and David ordered Pepperoni Pizza. We also had a fantastic 4-course dinner at Chef Chai, celebrating our 42nd wedding anniversary. And we had lunch at the Greek Marina and Chengdu Taste. The reason why I have not posted a review of these 4 restaurants is that I have already reviewed these 4 restaurants. I don’t want to be redundant!

We also had lunch at Tango Contemporary Cafe. This restaurant has won several awards, but the food we ordered was pretty bad. My Madras Chicken Curry was bland and tasteless. David’s N.Y. Steak was gristly and tough. So, why post photos of such bad food?

Then, we had lunch at Assaggio at Ala Moana Center. We were so disappointed in this restaurant. David ordered Osso Buco, but was served Veal Parmigiana, instead. He was pissed off with the chef, but ate it anyway, because he didn’t want to wait another 20 minutes to eat. My Shrimp and Chicken Linguine was mediocre. So, why write a post about this disappointing dining experience?

Those are the reasons why I haven’t posted a restaurant review lately.

Cuisine that is fit for a King and Queen? Why, that would be enough to make my culinary heart sing!

You are so correct. Why post a review of a mediocre restaurant. The reviews you write should be about meals that are wonderful, not mediocre. I am looking forward to another great experience that is worthy of a review.

  2. Cathy Says:

I suppose you could write and explain how disappointed you were. Naming and shaming sometimes is a good thing

Mediocre or otherwise, it still made me hungry just reading this. Wow, had no idea you two ate out so often but that’s great you do! (But I have noticed it’s been a while since you did a cooking blog, Gigi.). Anyway, happy anniversary to you and David! 42 years is a pretty big milestone! 🙂♥️👍

…we still have restaurants off limits for us. The virus is still a concern.

  5. AC Says:

It seems that your experiences were mostly good, but it is disappointing to fork out the big bucks for a mediocre meal.

  6. Olga Says:

It is disappointing to have a lackluster meal when dining out. I don’t eat out much anymore so I have high expectations when I do!

  7. Lakshmi Bhat Says:

Yes, why post bad reviews? Eating not so good food is bad enough 😊

  8. Christine Says:

You have been eating out a lot!

  9. Iris Flavia Says:

Oh! Happy, happy anniversary!!! To love!
Sad about the eating-outs that went bad.

  10. Arkansas Patti Says:

Congrats on your 42 years together. So glad that dinner got a rave. Think I would be tempted to let my waiter know I do write a blog and give reviews. Might make them try a little harder and maybe even give you a discount.

Happy Anniversary. Glad you got to celebrate it with a really good meal. When we do eat out, and it’s seldom, we go back to the places that make us happy. It sounds like you’ve done quite a bit of that lately with your roll call of places you enjoy and go to often. When we both worked, we ate out about once a week. But in retirement, it is more like once a month. That said, last week we ate out twice (!) but both times at the same restaurant because we had to be in that neighborhood both at the beginning and the end of the week and we love the food and service.

Happy belated anniversary. I am sorry that you have had some mediocre experiences – and hope that you let the restaurants know, even if you didn’t post reviews here.

I write a review of bad eats, especially bad service which irks me no end but oh boy I don’t eat out even 10% of the time you do. Sorry you were so disappointed.

That’s too bad about the mediocre food! I always think of going out to eat as a treat, when it’s bad, it’s such a huge disappointment!

  15. DJan Says:

Happy anniversary! We might make it to 42, but it’s a long shot: we would both be well into our nineties. 🙂

  16. Nancy Chan Says:

Happy anniversary. Yes, we also have our share of disappointing dine-outs. End of this year, we too will be celebrating our 42nd anniversary. Time really flies.

  17. Granny Annie Says:

I live in a town with one dine-in cafe and one drive-in restaurant. My reviews are all quite boring.

  18. DeniseinVA Says:

I think it’s wise not to write reviews on disappointing restaurants. They might be just having a bad day and sometime down the road, we will go again. Generally the experience has been much better, but if the second time is just as bad, we don’t go again. If someone asks me personally about a place, I will tell them about my experiences. I also am also probably being overly cautious from shaming them on my blog, as I know people have been sued for such practices.

  19. Beatrice Says:

Belated Happy Anniversary wishes to you both. Writing about a restaurant can be good and bad and something I rarely, if ever, have done on my blog. As Denise notes, maybe it was just a bad day for everyone. That said, David should have received the meal he ordered and not something completely different. t the very least, he should not have been charged for the mistake.

  20. marmeladegypsy Says:

That makes sense. You usually want to forget the disappointing ones as soon as possible!

  21. David Gascoigne Says:

It’s pretty unbelievable that they serve the wrong dish!

  22. Joared Says:

Belated Happy Anniversary! Glad you can enjoy so many meals out. My husband and I were married 43 years.
